Since the start of the CORE-ED Academy project in January 2025, focused on juvenile justice, University College CEPS Kiseljak has actively promoted the initiative among professors, students, and key stakeholders in related sectors.
Under Work Package 3—Co-production of the CORE-ED Correctional Pedagogy Ecosystem, aimed at developing new curricula and building higher education capacity in collaboration with students, employers, and civil society—Professors Mirzo Selimić, Nedžad Korajlić, and Nermin Palić conducted a thorough analysis of correctional sector needs and emerging job profiles using both quantitative and qualitative methods. This included 18 in-depth interviews and 126 completed questionnaires, gathering diverse perspectives. The findings were compiled into the Country Report for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Correctional staff play a vital role in rehabilitating juvenile offenders, requiring specialized training to support these vulnerable individuals while safeguarding their rights. The report assesses training needs for correctional services working with convicted children across the Western Balkans, analyzing legal frameworks, professional competencies, and training gaps from the perspectives of justice professionals and civil society. These insights will guide the creation of a standardized training programme for students, prison and probation officers, NGOs, and civil society, promoting consistent practices and cross-border collaboration in juvenile justice.
